The Final Revelation
Days bled into each other as Richard wandered through their house, surrounded by the echoes of a life he once knew. Her presence lingered—her perfume on the pillows, her slippers by the door, the mug with the lipstick stain on it. Every object, every moment felt like a haunting.

It wasn’t until Richard stood at the gas station again, weeks later, that everything clicked. The attendant looked at him, then down at the ground, recognizing him instantly.
“Did anyone ever ask about her?” Richard asked, voice trembling. The attendant nodded, almost apologetically. “The media were here for days… but no one’s come back.”
It hit him like a slap. Adeline was gone—vanished—but it wasn’t just the storm or the prank that took her. It was him. The haunting look on her face that night, the resignation in her eyes. She knew something he didn’t. She had known, deep down, that this would be the last time.
