A Mother’s Post That Touched the World
Lilah’s mother, Katelynn Smoot, has been sharing her daughter’s battle on social media since the diagnosis earlier this year. Her videos document the family’s struggle and resilience, as well as the small moments of joy that music brings to Lilah’s life.
In one video posted on TikTok, the toddler is seen smiling while watching Taylor Swift on an iPad, calling the singer “my friend.” In the caption, Katelynn revealed that she had listened to Taylor’s music throughout her pregnancy and that her daughter’s name was originally going to be “Willow,” after one of Swift’s songs.
“I listened to Taylor my whole pregnancy,” Katelynn wrote. “Now her songs bring my daughter comfort and happiness through her toughest days.”
A Battle No Parent Is Ever Ready For
Lilah was diagnosed after suffering a seizure at just 18 months old. The tests confirmed an aggressive and rare form of brain cancer, with only a few dozen known cases nationwide. Since then, the family’s life has been consumed by hospital visits, surgeries, and months of treatments that include chemotherapy, stem cell therapy, and proton radiation.
Despite the pain and exhaustion, Katelynn says that music has kept her daughter’s spirit alive. “Even when she’s weak from treatment, she dances,” the mother shared. “Her love for Taylor’s music gives her strength.”
