When Cal excitedly told Claire that he had won the auction, he had no idea what kind of property he had actually bought. The home he had won was not a small apartment as they had hoped, but an enormous, 120-year-old mansion that was a total wreck. The moment he realized the house wasn’t one property, but three separate lots, his heart sank. The panic set in, but he swallowed his fear and called Claire, who was visiting her family in Canada at the time.
