Kayla, gasping for breath, stood in the dark hallway. In the house that was supposed to be empty, every movement seemed unusual, every creak unsettling.
Sabrina, her friend, was supposed to have taken Tommy, and Kayla had planned to just quickly check everything in the house.
But when she walked through the door, everything was not as she expected. It was too quiet… almost too quiet. The silence around her began to feel suffocating.

Suddenly, she heard it — footsteps, faint but distinct. It wasn’t the wind. It wasn’t a sound her mind could explain.
It was a real step. Someone was upstairs. Kayla froze, trying to comprehend what was happening.
Sabrina was gone. Tommy was safe with her. No one was supposed to be in the house but her.

But those footsteps — they sounded so close. She gripped her phone, unsure what to do. Should she leave, call the police, or… check what was going on in the house?
With every passing second, her panic grew, and the footsteps seemed to grow louder. It felt like an echo in her head, keeping her on edge. Every step she took seemed too loud as she slowly began to climb the stairs.

She couldn’t take her eyes off the shadow that appeared upstairs, and her body trembled. When she reached the top floor, the house was full of sounds: creaking floorboards, rustling, and door knocks.
But the strangest part was the silence in the kitchen. Kayla stood still for a moment, frozen in indecision. Then she remembered the security cameras installed all around the house.

They could have recorded everything. She needed to check what had been happening at the moment when the footsteps stopped. She opened the app on her phone and accessed the kitchen camera feed.
What she saw made her heart freeze. A figure flashed on the screen — a man, standing right in the middle of the kitchen. His face was unclear, but his movements were unmistakable.

He was in the shadow, almost invisible, but his intentions left no doubt. He was there to find something. He was opening cabinets, moving tables, and searching for something that he believed should be in the house.
Something that Kayla definitely wasn’t supposed to find. But what? Why was he there? In that moment, Kayla felt a chill run through her body.

It was terrifying. Why was he so confident in his actions? She needed to act. She should call the police, but Kayla was afraid he might hear her if she made any noise.
She decided to leave things as they were until help arrived. But it wasn’t that simple. At that moment, another strange detail appeared on the camera feed: the man approached the refrigerator door, opened it, and quickly took something out.

It seemed his goal had been achieved. He wasn’t in a hurry to leave, and that only heightened the sense of threat in the air. Kayla could no longer stay in the house.
Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it would leap out of her chest. She slowly returned to the living room and called the police, trying not to make a sound.

The silence in the house was eerie. But on her phone screen, she saw the man disappear again, as if fading into the shadows. The police arrived a few minutes later, but by the time they found the unwanted guest, it was already too late.
He was gone. But his traces remained. And perhaps, this was just the beginning.
