Pripyat, Ukraine – A Legacy of Chernobyl
Pripyat is perhaps the most infamous ghost town in the world. Built in 1970 to house the workers of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, it was once a vibrant, modern town with schools, parks, and theaters. But everything changed on April 26, 1986, when the Chernobyl disaster released a deadly amount of radiation into the atmosphere. Within hours, the entire population of over 40,000 residents was evacuated, never to return.
