THE TRAP IN DALLAS
Flight delayed.
Those two words hit harder than a bullet.
Brooks was stuck in Dallas. His home in Jackson was only 400 miles away.
But Haley was already being wheeled into the delivery room.
He paced the terminal like a wounded animal.
God, please not now. Just wait for me.

His phone buzzed again.
“Her water broke,” his mother-in-law’s voice sounded panicked. “It’s happening too fast, Brooks. You aren’t going to make it.”
His legs gave out. He slid down onto the cold floor right next to the boarding gate.
Around him, people sipped coffee, laughed, and scrolled through their feeds. Meanwhile, his world was collapsing.
He was trained to fight enemies. He wasn’t afraid of war. But right now, he was powerless.
He FaceTime’d Haley’s mother.
“Show her to me. Please.”
The hospital room appeared on his screen. Beeping monitors. His wife’s pale face.
And then, the connection started to glitch.

Did the doctors ban the call?
