“Johnny, keep him busy,” Marcus whispered.
Johnny nodded. He walked over to Carl and started asking loud, annoying questions about the company’s European expansion plans. Carl, eager to brag, took the bait.
Marcus slipped away.
He didn’t go to his mother’s room. He went straight to his father’s office.
His heart hammered against his ribs. Thump. Thump. Thump.
He knelt on the rug behind the heavy oak desk and pulled it back.
There it was. A floor safe.
Only Ethan and Marcus knew the combination.
Left to 40. Right to 12. Left to 5.

Marcus didn’t have time to read. He grabbed every document inside, shoved them under his shirt, and slammed the safe shut.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed in the hallway.
“Hey!” Carl’s voice boomed. “What are you doing in there?”
