The Terminal Reveal
The jet bridge connected. The door opened.
Two officers stormed onto the plane.
“That woman assaulted my daughter!” the man yelled, trying to push past them with the girl in his arms.
“Hold on, sir,” the officer said, blocking his path. “We need to see some ID.”
The man went pale. Sweat beaded on his forehead.
While they checked his passport—which turned out to be a clumsy forgery—a female officer looked down at the girl’s feet.
She saw the dirty sneakers.
She knelt down. “Honey, do you know this man?”
The girl burst into tears and shook her head no.
The man was tackled to the ground right there in the jet bridge. It turned out he was part of a trafficking ring, and the girl had been snatched from a mall three states away just hours earlier.
Clara was released an hour later. She walked out of the airport not in handcuffs, but into the arms of the girl’s real parents.
She had a criminal record for assault. But she also had a saved life.
