Britney didn’t wait another second. She jumped out, guided Elsa into her warm van, and blasted the heater. She wrapped the shivering woman in three blankets she kept in the back.

But Elsa wouldn’t stop shaking.

Britney called 911. When the paramedics and fire department arrived, they took Elsa’s vitals.

Her body temperature had dropped to 94°F.

She had entered the dangerous stages of hypothermia. If Britney hadn’t stopped, Elsa’s heart likely would have given out within the hour.
