In the ultrasound room, the technician applied the cold gel to the massive dome of her abdomen. As soon as the probe touched her skin, the image on the screen turned into a chaotic storm of grey and black.
The technician frowned, adjusting the frequency knobs with frantic clicks. “I can’t find the kidneys,” she muttered. “I can’t even find the stomach lining. It’s just… everywhere.”
Dr. Evans was called back into the room along with the Chief of Surgery. They stood around the glowing monitors, their faces illuminated by the eerie blue light. The scan revealed a mass so colossal it had shoved her organs into the corners of her body.
“Look at the lungs,” the Chief pointed a pen at the top of the screen. “They are compressed to a fraction of their size. Her heart is beating against a wall.”
