THE FINAL STAND
The warehouse was a labyrinth of rusted metal and shadows.
The SWAT team breached the entrance. Flash-bangs erupted, blinding the darkness.
“POLICE! DROP THE WEAPON!”
Detective Miller burst into a small office at the back.
The kidnapper was holding Lucy, a jagged knife pressed against her side.
“Stay back!” he screamed. “I just wanted the money! I have nothing left!”

Lucy looked at the red dots. She looked at Detective Miller.
“Did the pizza come?” she asked, her voice tiny.
Miller didn’t blink. “Yes, Lucy. It’s right here.”
A single shot rang out. The kidnapper slumped to the floor.
Lucy was scooped up into Miller’s arms. She was shaking, but she was alive.
The “Pizza Call” had worked.
The man was behind bars, and the community held a vigil that lasted for days.
Lucy Grayson became a symbol of bravery, but she still won’t eat pepperoni pizza to this day.
