Within hours, the video was everywhere. Millions of views. National news outlets were calling. Everyone wanted to know: Who was this soldier?
Lt. Col. Robert Risdon was found. He was an Army Ranger and a father of two. When asked why he did it—why he stopped for two strangers on a rainy Tuesday—he didn’t talk about charity or kindness.
He talked about duty.
“I’m an Army Ranger,” Risdon explained, uncomfortable with the fame. “We live by the Ranger Creed.”
He quoted the line that guided his life:
