Ruth was donating all one million pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).
Why pop tabs? The charity collects these aluminum tabs and trades them at local recycling plants for cash. Since 2012, the program has generated millions of dollars to fund facility expenses and support programs for families of severely ill children. Tabs are preferred over whole cans because they are sanitary, easy to store, and highly concentrated in valuable aluminum.
The Heart Behind the Hustle
The true story behind Ruth’s extreme dedication is deeply personal. Growing up as an orphan, Ruth never knew the comfort of a family during holidays, or having someone to hold her hand when she was sick and scared.

True to her humble nature, she kept all her thank-you letters and certificates hidden in a box under her bed.
