But one day, a routine run-in with the local forest patrol triggered a chain of events that would turn his life upside down, all because of an incredible mystery of the animal kingdom.
Fleeing from his pursuers, Johnny wandered into an uncharted part of the thicket and stumbled upon a chilling anomaly: a perfectly circular passage cut through the dense trees. But the most unbelievable thing awaited him at the entrance. Standing there was a stag—the very same one Johnny had been aiming his rifle at just half an hour ago. The animal wasn’t running away. It paced at the edge of the tunnel, staring intensely into the man’s eyes. With a shudder, the hunter realized this wasn’t a coincidence or a lack of fear. It was a desperate plea for help.
Taken immediately sensed something was wrong: the dog flatly refused to approach the clearing, barking frantically and pulling his owner backward by the pant leg. However, Johnny, despite his paralyzing fear of the anomaly, suddenly realized that there are no coincidences in these woods. Tying his struggling dog to a tree so his barks wouldn’t attract the patrol, he made a completely reckless decision—to lower his weapon and follow the wild beast.
They stepped into the terrifying unknown. The forest inside the tunnel looked unnatural: the trees seemed to have been planted by an invisible hand, forming a clear, gloomy path. Johnny’s heart pounded wildly from the building suspense and the oppressive silence of the wilderness. Ahead, the stag stepped gracefully, stopping every few paces to look back, as if checking to ensure the human was still following him down this eerie trail.
After five tense minutes of walking, they arrived at a place that simply shouldn’t have been there—a massive, old log mansion hidden deep in the heart of the forest. But it wasn’t the building itself that shocked Johnny. On the porch of the mysterious house, the hunter made a discovery that simultaneously filled him with a sense of dark magic and broke his heart: there, firmly clamped in a poacher’s trap, lay a tiny, exhausted fawn.
