Seven-year-old Bonnie Lohman lived a life of shadows. Her family moved constantly—from Hawaii to Saipan, always hiding in remote areas.
She wasn’t allowed to go to school. She had no friends.
Her “stepfather” was her only connection to the world.
One afternoon in Colorado, they went to the grocery store. It was a rare treat.

While her stepfather picked out vegetables, Bonnie wandered toward the dairy section.
A specific milk carton caught her eye. It had a black-and-white photo of a little girl on the side.
Bonnie froze. She couldn’t read the word “MISSING” printed in bold letters, but she knew that face.
It was her. The girl on the milk was Bonnie.

“Look!” Bonnie chirped, pointing at the carton. “I’m famous!”
Her stepfather turned. The moment he saw the carton, the color drained from his face.
