Matt and Cassie were just an ordinary young couple from England. He made a living as a simple painter, while she worked as a supervisor at a local supermarket, counting every penny. Their lives were turned upside down in a single day when, at just 23 years old, they drew the ultimate lucky ticket—a $60 million lottery jackpot. This sudden wealth instantly erased all boundaries, allowing them to dream of things that seemed like pure fantasy just the day before.
After generously treating their friends and family, the newly minted millionaires decided to build their perfect nest. For $1.6 million, they purchased the luxurious historic “Rainbow House” in Nottingham—a famous estate where scenes for the blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises were filmed. However, they had no intention of living within its old walls.
The couple planned to demolish the building and construct a massive $6 million underground eco-home on the site. Dubbed the “Teletubby house” by the press, the ambitious project included solar panels, a massive swimming pool, a private cinema, and a 10-car luxury garage.
But the grand construction never began. The lavish project was abruptly frozen, and the historic estate was left to the mercy of fate. The once-majestic mansion rapidly turned into terrifying ruins: the gardens became wildly overgrown, windows were smashed, and vandals and rats moved in. The walls were soon covered in creepy occult graffiti, and neighbors began bombarding the authorities with complaints about the appalling sanitary conditions and the gaping empty pool in the yard, which had become a real public hazard.
It was only a long time later, exhausted by the pressure from the media and angry neighbors, that the couple revealed the true, terrifying reason they abandoned their dream home. As it turned out, before tearing the building down, they decided to spend a modest night in one of the empty rooms. Deep in the night, Matt was awakened by strange noises coming from the ground floor.
Heading downstairs to investigate, the couple opened the door to an old study. They were instantly hit by an icy, unnatural cold, and in the middle of the room, they saw a strange, thick fog. At that exact second, a distinct knocking echoed from the next room, steadily and relentlessly moving right toward them.
Gripped by primal, paranormal terror, Matt and Cassie grabbed their things and fled the estate in a panic that very night, crossing the house out of their lives forever. To this day, the “Rainbow House” stands completely abandoned, continuing to terrify locals with its dark secrets.
