Every minute of the drive felt like an eternity. Lily clutched her stomach, crying out in pain with every bump in the road. Pradeep tried to stay calm, but inside, panic was taking over.
When they finally arrived, the emergency room was overflowing. The receptionist coldly said, “The wait is about three to four hours.”
Lily could barely speak. Her body was shutting down. “Please…” she whispered, “I can’t wait that long.”
That’s when a young nurse noticed her distress and pulled her to the front. What they saw next on the ultrasound made the entire room fall silent.

The doctor stared at the screen, his hands trembling slightly. “This… can’t be right,” he murmured.
Lily gripped Pradeep’s hand tightly. “What is it? Is it cancer? Am I dying?”
But the truth was even more shocking. The scan showed something inside her womb — something alive.
It wasn’t a tumor. It wasn’t tissue left behind. It was a heartbeat.
