The Answered Prayer
Susan looked at Richard.
He didn’t need to say a word. He was already crying. He nodded.
They walked through the front doors, not as visitors, but as parents.
The adoption process usually takes months, but they fought to make it happen as fast as possible. They knew Kevin belonged with them.
When the paperwork was finally signed, Kevin was in shock.
“Someone actually wants me?” he asked.
“We don’t just want you,” Richard said. “We need you.”

Weeks later, they were sitting at the dinner table. The house, once too quiet after Adam’s death, was filled with life again.
Kevin put down his fork and smiled at Susan.
“God answered my prayers,” he said innocently. “My mom… she really did take me away. She sent you.”
Susan reached across the table and squeezed his hand.
“He answered mine too, Kevin,” she said.
In the cemetery, a boy asked to be taken. In a dream, a son asked to be taken.
And in the end, love took them all home.
