The Archer family was supposed to be on a “trip of a lifetime.”
Tom Archer had taken his wife and two kids to Japan to see the naval base where his late father once served.

While there, they rescued a starving pup from a dirty alleyway. They named him Kiseki—Japanese for Miracle.
But miracles don’t always last. On the boat ride to Tokyo for their flight home, a gale-force storm struck the Pacific.
Kiseki panicked as the boat pitched violently. In a flash of blue fur, he was swept overboard into the churning, icy waves.
“Let me go! I can save him!” Tom roared.
“No!” the captain barked. “If you jump, you die too. The dog is gone.”
Tom watched as the tiny head of his dog vanished into the white foam. Kiseki was lost to the sea.
